Housing Code and Zoning Violations?

Housing code and zoning violations are generally initiated through complaints. This means that the County relies on citizens to identify and report possible code violations. Montgomery County maintains a phone number for citizens to request investigations of suspected zoning violations. The phone number is (240) 777-6259. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PROVIDE YOUR NAME.

If you are in doubt as to whether an activity is a violation of County zoning or code, the following is a link to the "Montgomery County Guide to Code Enforcement"

http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/Content/DHCA/housing/code_E/pdf/Guide_To_Code_Enforcement.PDF

This guide explains how to file a complaint and covers the following:

Accessory Apartments

Accumulations of Solid Waste

Grass and Weeds in Excess of 12 inches

Deteriorating Structures

Public Nuisance

Signs

Storing of Inoperable and Unlicensed Vehicles on Residential Property

Zoning Violations such as:

- Illegal Uses/Activities

- Occupancy Limits

Please note that if your compliant concerns unlicensed vehicles on public streets or commercial vehicles parked overnight on residential streets in our community, you should report that to the Police Department's non-emergency number (301) 279-8000.
